Featured Adoptables: Harvey the Cat & Marsha and Speedy the Terrier Mixes

Update, 6/9/10: Harvey’s listing is no longer available on Petfinder.

Update, 2/10/10: Marsha and Speedy’s listings are no longer available on Petfinder.

Seeing as I’ve developed an awful habit of posting Wednesday’s Featured Adoptable on a Thursday or Friday – and sometimes forgetting to highlight a wonderful furred or feathered Kansas City adoptable altogether (!) – I thought I’d hedge my bets and post a little early this week. And, because I missed out last week, you’ll get a two-for-one deal this week, folks!

Both (okay, all!) of this week’s animals hail from Wayside Waifs in Kansas City, Missouri.

First up is Harvey, a black, senior cat.

Meet Harvey! He is a sweet, senior kitty looking for a home to call his own. He came into Wayside when his owner could no longer keep him. Harvey was fearful of the children in his home, and his owner felt like a home without children would be more ideal for Harvey! When Harvey is in his kennel and wants out, he’ll meow, and you’d swear he was saying “helllooooo” in a low voice. It is hard to resist, so he usually gets his way and gets to come out to play. Harvey enjoys the company of most people, but he is still a little frightened of children because they tend to be loud and quick moving. He would prefer a calm, quiet home with a family wanting a loving cat to snuggle and love. Harvey’s adoption fee would be half price for an adopter over the age of 60. Ask an adoption counselor about our senior-to-senior discount!

Now, I was going to pick a black dog to pair up with Harvey – that is, until I found Marsha and Speedy the terrier mixes, who frakkin’ melted my normally grinch-like heart!

Hi! I’m Marsha, an 8-year-old Rat Terrier mix. I was brought to Wayside as a transfer from another shelter, so my Wayside family doesn’t know too much about my past. It’s been a rough journey for me. When I was first brought to Wayside a few months ago my boyfriend, Speedy (A08554062) was very sick with pneumonia and the staff weren’t sure if he was going to make it through alright. But with my care and affection (and ya, I guess the medicine helped too) he wow-ed them all with his quick recovery and now we’re back and ready to find our forever home. There is one catch though- I need to go home with my boyfriend Speedy (A08554062). We are attached at the hip and don’t want to be separated! There’s good news though! Not only are we small apartment size dogs but when you adopt me, Speedy will be half priced! What a steal! We are very well behaved and love to be loved on. I know it’s a lot to ask for you to just love one animal, but do you have room in your heart to love two?

Oh, the cuteness! If you’d like to adopt Harvey, Marsha and/or Speedy, get in touch with Wayside Waifs today. You can learn more about the adoption process here, and view all their available cats and dogs on Petfinder.

Each Wednesday, the Kansas City Freecycle blog will feature one adoptable animal from a local KC rescue group or animal shelter.

We do this for several reasons:

- To highlight the plight of abused, neglected and/or homeless non-human animals in the Kansas City (and surrounding) area.

- To remind members of our no-animal policy, and provide an alternative venue for members who wish to adopt an unwanted animal companion.

- To encourage members to adopt a furry, feathered or scaled friend.

- To help out out local animal rescue groups and animal shelters, many of which are overwhelmed by the sheer number of animals in need.

- To illustrate these animals’ unique personalities and characteristics, thus underscoring the fact that they are not objects and should not be “freecycled”.
