Featured Adoptables: Ruby Ray the Pekingese
November 4th, 2009 8:45 pm by Kelly G.Update, 2/10/10: Ruby Ray’s listing is no longer available on Petfinder.

Kansas City, meet Miss Ruby Ray. Miss Ruby Ray, Kansas City.
Of the Pekingese persuasion, Ms. Ray is a small, possibly disabled senior dog – with a big heart and lots of love to give, no doubt.
Her rescuers at Halfway Home Pet Adoptions in Kansas City, Missouri write:
Poor little Ruby Ray…!!! She is too old and too sweet to be at the pound! What’s going on? Someone has to give this sweetheart a chance. Ruby Ray appears to be blind or cant see well. She needs a caring and peaceful home where she will be loved and pampered like the little princess she is. Please don’t make her wait too long. The pound is not a place for a dog her age..
UPDATE: Ruby Ray found a foster home, thank god. She is dong very well and is now hoping someone will give her a permanent home. If interested, please fill out our On-Line Application. Adopting one of our foster dogs allows you to have more information about how the dog behaves in a home. In addition, it opens a spot in the foster program so we can save another dog who is running out of time. Please consider opening your heart to a foster dog.
For more info about this pet or to set up a time to meet him or her, please contact us: email [at] petshalfwayhome.com / (816) 784-4001 – If you are driving distance of Kansas City, one of our representatives might be able to take this pet to your home to see how he or she does in your environment and help you make a decision.
operates as the municipal shelter for the entire Kansas City Missouri area. As such, we receive an unfortunately sizeable number of cats and dogs each day. When space becomes limited the shelter is forced to euthanize animals. The shelter does not currently operate as a no-kill facility.
By adopting Miss Ruby – or any of Halfway Home’s charges – you save not one being, but two: your new fur-kid, as well as the animal who will take your fur-kid’s spot at the shelter (or in the foster home, as the case may be). So what are y’all waiting for? Give Halfway Home a call today!

Each Wednesday, the Kansas City Freecycle blog will feature one adoptable animal from a local KC rescue group or animal shelter.
We do this for several reasons:
- To highlight the plight of abused, neglected and/or homeless non-human animals in the Kansas City (and surrounding) area.
- To remind members of our no-animal policy, and provide an alternative venue for members who wish to adopt an unwanted animal companion.
- To encourage members to adopt a furry, feathered or scaled friend.
- To help out out local animal rescue groups and animal shelters, many of which are overwhelmed by the sheer number of animals in need.
- To illustrate these animals’ unique personalities and characteristics, thus underscoring the fact that they are not objects and should not be “freecycled”.
