Once again, this week’s featured adoptable comes to you courtesy of Best Friends Animal Society, which is trying to assist Cassidy’s foster mom in finding her a permanent home. Cassidy is from Omaha, Nebraska, and has faced great hardships for a cat so young.

Writes Best Friends,

Say hello to Cassidy, the World’s Greatest Three Legged Cat. Cassidy’s past is a mystery, she appeared on the front porch of a kindly person who took her immediately to the vet because of her injured leg. Her leg could not be saved, but Cassidy is adjusting well to having three legs for transport.

As you can see, she is a beautiful girl and is in need of a special home. She becomes frightened easily in strange situations, but, looses her fear when presented with a quiet place and a bowl of canned food. Her fright is probably connected to her mystery past, and may go away with time, or could be a part of her otherwise pleasant, friendly nature.

Please print the attached flyer, hang it out and about to help Cassidy find just the right place.

If you can help to find Cassidy that special home, please contact Laura directly, 402-210-8651, or mbslds [at] cox.net.

Thank you all so very much!

The aforementioned flyer offers the following additional information:

Cassidy was found outdoors injured and needing help. Her front leg had been mauled. The tissue was very damaged and the bones severely broken. The leg had to be amputated.

Cassidy is looking for a home where she can be indoors and safe. She is up to date on all her medical needs. She is a very sweet loving cat who very much enjoys being with you and getting attention. However, Cassidy is VERY shy if put into a “large environment” and would do best in a quiet home with no small children and maybe one or two other pets.

I have blogged about three-legged dogs several times (see: Amelia, Mely, Peggy), but never a three-legged cat. Truth be told, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a three-legged cat before! (And this comes from someone who spends an inordinate amount of time browsing Petfinder, even when her house is filled to maximum nonhuman capacity!)

If you’d like to bring this very special “special needs” girl into your life, please get in touch with foster mom Laura today.

Each Wednesday, the Kansas City Freecycle blog will feature one adoptable animal from a local KC rescue group or animal shelter.

We do this for several reasons:

- To highlight the plight of abused, neglected and/or homeless non-human animals in the Kansas City (and surrounding) area.

- To remind members of our no-animal policy, and provide an alternative venue for members who wish to adopt an unwanted animal companion.

- To encourage members to adopt a furry, feathered or scaled friend.

- To help out out local animal rescue groups and animal shelters, many of which are overwhelmed by the sheer number of animals in need.

- To illustrate these animals’ unique personalities and characteristics, thus underscoring the fact that they are not objects and should not be “freecycled”.
