Featured Adoptables: Lulu the Himalayan Cat

Update, 2/10/10: Lulu’s listing is no longer available on Petfinder.

null

Allow me to introduce you to this week’s adoptable: Lulu, a Himalayan. She’s one of two kitties being fostered by LL Dog Rescue, which is – you guessed it – primarily a canine rescue group.

Of Lulu, LL Dog Rescue writes,

Lulu is a stunning 8 yr old blue point himi girl. She lost her home due to a financial crisis. She has always lived with other cats in an adult only home. She has impeccable litterbox manners and is an all around easy cat to have in your house. She is not declawed – but does not seem to scratch inappropriately. Once she knows you – she is very affectionate. When she is happy – she is more than happy to tell you about it 🙂 She is Felv/FIV negative.

If you’re interested in giving Lulu a good, stable home, please get in touch with LL Dog Rescue ASAP. They’re located in Kansas City, Missouri, and hold adoption events in Overland Park, Kansas.

Featured Adoptables: Cassidy the 3-Legged Cat

Once again, this week’s featured adoptable comes to you courtesy of Best Friends Animal Society, which is trying to assist Cassidy’s foster mom in finding her a permanent home. Cassidy is from Omaha, Nebraska, and has faced great hardships for a cat so young.

Writes Best Friends,

Say hello to Cassidy, the World’s Greatest Three Legged Cat. Cassidy’s past is a mystery, she appeared on the front porch of a kindly person who took her immediately to the vet because of her injured leg. Her leg could not be saved, but Cassidy is adjusting well to having three legs for transport.

As you can see, she is a beautiful girl and is in need of a special home. She becomes frightened easily in strange situations, but, looses her fear when presented with a quiet place and a bowl of canned food. Her fright is probably connected to her mystery past, and may go away with time, or could be a part of her otherwise pleasant, friendly nature.

Please print the attached flyer, hang it out and about to help Cassidy find just the right place.

If you can help to find Cassidy that special home, please contact Laura directly, 402-210-8651, or mbslds [at] cox.net.

Thank you all so very much!

The aforementioned flyer offers the following additional information:

Cassidy was found outdoors injured and needing help. Her front leg had been mauled. The tissue was very damaged and the bones severely broken. The leg had to be amputated.

Cassidy is looking for a home where she can be indoors and safe. She is up to date on all her medical needs. She is a very sweet loving cat who very much enjoys being with you and getting attention. However, Cassidy is VERY shy if put into a “large environment” and would do best in a quiet home with no small children and maybe one or two other pets.

I have blogged about three-legged dogs several times (see: Amelia, Mely, Peggy), but never a three-legged cat. Truth be told, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a three-legged cat before! (And this comes from someone who spends an inordinate amount of time browsing Petfinder, even when her house is filled to maximum nonhuman capacity!)

If you’d like to bring this very special “special needs” girl into your life, please get in touch with foster mom Laura today.

Featured Adoptables: Sawyer the Beagle Pup

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Update, 2/10/10: Sawyer’s listing is no longer available on Petfinder.

null

During the last year+, I’ve featured a disproportionate number of beagles here on the KCF blog. Probably I should rotate through breeds as well as species, just to be fair. But Sawyer is just so durned cute, I can’t help but post yet another beagle pic!

OOOOh Sawyer, what an angel he is. He was found in a high kill animal control facility in August. He was so incredibly sad and lonely. He wasn’t eating and looked just miserable. Once at his foster home, Sawyer began showing signs of kennel cough. He was immediately seen by a vet and given antibiotics. He was really sick and had to be hand fed. Once he was on the mend, I was able to see the REAL Sawyer. He is silly and loves to play outside. He loves kids (I have three teenagers) and the kids in the neighborhood. He gets along well with the other dogs too. He is completely housebroken. He is also a very quiet beagle. I kept waiting for that baying to start once he felt better but he really doesn’t feel the need to talk. If you are looking for a perfect beagle, he is it. I really feel like he is a very special boy. He has these eyes that really tell you how he is feeling. He will make someone a great best friend.

Sawyer is currently staying with ACT Dog Rescue in Overland Park, Kansas. Sounds like he’ll be a good viewing companion with which to enjoy the final season of Lost; better bring him home before January!

This week’s adoptable currently resides north of the city, in Smithville, Missouri. Goldie is temporarily staying at The KattyShack, but would love to come home with you!

Goldie is as cute as can be. This tail less girl is just beautiful. She is very friendly and loves people, but she does love people more than other cats. She is young at just over a year and fully housetrained and quiet mannerly. You will love Goldie.

You can find out more about The KattyShack here.

Featured Adoptables: Montana the Beagle & Dakota the German Shepherd Mix

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Update, 2/10/10: Montana and Dakota’s listings are no longer available on Petango.

null

I’m a little strapped for time this week, so I decided to borrow one of Wayside Waifs’ “Waifs of the Week” for this week’s Featured Adoptable post. Normally, Wayside Waifs highlights younger, more “adoptable” animals in its newsletter. This week, though, they (kinda sorta) broke with tradition and included a senior beagle named Montana (alongside Demi, a one-year-old Belgian Malinois Mix and Espresso, a ten-month-old kitten).

It appears that Wayside Waifs no longer relies on Petfinder as its primary adoption listing source; instead, its newsletter links to Petango (which is new to me!). Here’s Montana’s listing:

null

Name: Montana
Animal ID: 7894997
Breed: Beagle / Mix Learn more
Age: 9 years 2 months
Gender: Female
Color: Brown / Black
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Size: Medium

This sweet girl is Montana! She is a nine year old Beagle, and true to her breed, she is interested in following her nose wherever it takes her. Montana is easygoing and gentle, and she loves a good walk. She loves to check out everything around her. Montana came into Wayside as a transfer from another shelter with her best friend, Dakota. They’ve been together for a very long time, and they need to go home with each other. These two would be a great pick for a first time dog owner. They are both relaxed, social, and have great doggie manners. They are affectionate with everybody who stops along their walk to say hello! If you have room in your heart and home for these two sweethearts, come down to meet them today! Montana is currently in foster and is not at the shelter. If you would like to meet Montana and Dakota, please call Sarah Little at 816- 256-9310.

In addition to being an older lady, Montana is one half of a bonded pair; as you may recall, this can make it even more difficult for Montana (and her dog friend) to find a forever home. If you have room in your heart and home for two senior girls, please consider adopting Montana and Dakota.

And what about Dakota, hmmm? Let’s find out more about the second senior lady, shall we?:
