Updated, 6/10/09: Awesomeness! Sabrina has been adopted!

Meet Sabrina, a miniature horse, proud mommy of five and this week’s Featured Adoptable!

Sabrina’s Petfinder listing comes courtesy of Homes for Disposable Pets in Blue Rapids, KS. (Blue Rapids is about a two and a half hour drive northwest of Kansas City, KS.)

SABRINA is a full grown miniature horse mare that will soon be looking for a nice family and pasture to call her own. Sabrina, unlike the lil males is much more socialized and enjoys more hands on contact (belly and ear rubbing) and is halter trained. Her baby (FANCY) is about to be weaned and she will be available to be adopted very soon. She has now had already had 5 foals that we are aware of in her short 8 years and this is to be her last, she’s more than ready to retire motherhood and enjoy a carefree life. She is the mother of Trigger, Tatum and Fancy.

Miniature horses are NOT meant to be ridden, they are TOO SMALL and they are NOT PONIES. However, they may be shown in many aspects of competition as well as trained to pull a cart for the Mini Enthusiast’s. They are actually very easy keepers.

Considered applicants must be knowledgeable of the breed, have adequate acreage and a barn-shed for them to be able to get out of bad weather. They do not do well as an ‘ONLY’, so we request that applicants have minimally another horse as a companion or be willing to adopt two.

Sabrina will be completely vetted prior to being adopted by her new family and a contract stating she will NOT be bred will be signed.

One of Sabrina’s babies, Tatum, is also available for adoption, as is Dale, an adult male miniature horse.

Each Wednesday, the Kansas City Freecycle blog will feature one adoptable animal from a local KC rescue group or animal shelter.

We do this for several reasons:

- To highlight the plight of companion animals in the Kansas City area.

- To remind members of our no-animal policy, and provide an alternative venue for members who wish to adopt an unwanted animal.

- To encourage members to adopt a furry friend.

- To help out out local animal rescue groups and animal shelters, many of which are overwhelmed by the sheer number of animals in need.

- To illustrate these animals’ unique personalities and characteristics, thus underscoring the fact that they are not objects and should not be “freecycled”.
