Bridging The Gap is partnering in a broad public input project on how we can make our region healthier and sustainable for our future.

And you’re invited to join in the conversation about where we can go from here. There will be additional public meetings in the Fall and Spring leading to a live KCPT Town Hall presentation on Earth Day, April 22, 2009.

Creating a sustainable Kansas City region, one idea at a time

We have the forum - you have the answers

Featured Adoptables: Macy the St. Bernard mix

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

null

Sorry I’m a day late with this week’s featured adoptable, folks. I had a date with the dentist yesterday, and it involved oral-conscious sedation, so I was out of it for most of the day.

Anywho, today I wanted to feature a St. Bernard dog. My very first dogs were a brother-sister pair of St. Bernard/Collie mixes. My parents adopted Bucky and Cap (short for Captain America) when I was a mere six months old, and they passed away when I was 12, within just six months of one another. They were wonderful dogs, and I still miss them to this day.

So. I plugged “St. Bernard” into the Petfinder search box and stumbled upon Miss Macy, a beautiful St. Bernard mix. (There’s gotta be some hound in there, too!)

Macy is a sweet lovebug of a girl, who joined our rescue in March 06. She is a young adult, but she acts like a big puppy! Macy was found as a stray in rural KS and came to us thanks to an internet rescue friend, who knew she was an extra special girl! This poor baby was running along a busy highway, and it is very lucky that she wound up in a safe place!

Macy weighs around 70 lbs now and seems to be at her full adult size. We don’t know her “pedigree” by any means, but based on her coloring, head-shape and size, we “guess” that she has some sort of “hound” in her, and possibly a little St. Bernard! She has a soft coat of fur and a really long tail, that curls most of the time. Her personality is very loving with people and she likes to give kisses and be petted. Macy also has a real stubborn “streak” though, as most “hounds” do, and she tends to do what SHE wants to do, before considering what YOU want her to do! A dog-experienced home or a home with a lot of *patience* will be best for Miss Macy! She is walking pretty well on leash for us, and seems to be completely housetrained. She is a smart cookie! Macy plays just fine with other dogs and would probably have a ball with a dog brother or sister to hang out with.

Macy is a real beauty, inside and out, who is looking for the right and perfect home to love her as she so deserves! Please email us for more information, or for an adoption application.

Fenced yard required, Kansas City “metro” area adoptions only.

Macy is currently staying with Happy Dogs Rescue. Check them out at www.happydogsrescue.com; they’re hosting several events in October, including a book sale to raise some much-needed funds:

UPCOMING FALL ADOPTION EVENTS:

Any questions, just drop us an email! Please stop by to meet some of our outstanding dogs!

October 12, I’ll be there. Seriously, does it get any better than books and dogs? My two first loves, those are!

Featured Adoptables: Simone the Guinea Pig

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

UPDATE, 10/9/08: Simone’s listing is no longer available on Petfinder. I do so hope this means that she’s been adopted.

null

Meet Simone, a guinea pig from Wayside Waifs who’d love to be your new snuggle bunny (piggy?):

Hi! My name is Simone. I came here to Wayside after my owners could not take care of me. I am only a year old and would love a home where I could learn to be held and loved all day long. My previous owner held me sometimes so I am still getting used to the whole thing. I love to hide in my little “home” that they nice folks here at Wayside gave to me. Could you love a guinea pig like me? Come down to Wayside Waifs today and see me!

She’s tiny, she’s cuddley, she’s housetrained - and she’s got the coolest do I’ve ever seen on such a little critter. There’s enough cuteness in that face for a St. Bernard, I tell you what.

Each Wednesday, the Kansas City Freecycle blog will feature one adoptable animal from a local KC rescue group or animal shelter.

We do this for several reasons:

- To highlight the plight of companion animals in the Kansas City area.

- To remind members of our no-animal policy, and provide an alternative venue for members who wish to adopt an unwanted animal.

- To encourage members to adopt a furry friend.

- To help out out local animal rescue groups and animal shelters, many of which are overwhelmed by the sheer number of animals in need.

- To illustrate these animals’ unique personalities and characteristics, thus underscoring the fact that they are not objects and should not be “freecycled”.
