Featured Adoptables: Babe the Pig
September 24th, 2008 9:55 am by KellyUPDATE, 10/9/08: Oh, yays! Babe has been adopted! Happy tails, Babe, happy tails…

In the 22 weeks that I’ve been doing this feature, I’ve searched far and wide for a pig in need locally. Horses, cows, cats, dogs, ferrets, rats - I’ve found all up for adoption in the KC Metro area save for pigs and lizards. So, this week, I decided to branch out a little in order to bring you Babe, a pot bellied pig in need of a new home:
June 7, 2008 - Babe will remain in her home until we find a new family for her. Her owner passed away. She is really funny to watch. She begs for treats. She is crate trained and in very good health. She is housebroken. Adoption fee is $100.00.
Babe is from Stover, Missouri (the Petfinder listing is courtesy Stover Animal Control), which is about two hours southeast of the Kansas City area. Sanctuaries and shelters in Springfield, Marshfield, Union and Wichita also have pigs available for adoption.

Each Wednesday, the Kansas City Freecycle blog will feature one adoptable animal from a local KC rescue group or animal shelter.
We do this for several reasons:
- To highlight the plight of companion animals in the Kansas City area.
- To remind members of our no-animal policy, and provide an alternative venue for members who wish to adopt an unwanted animal.
- To encourage members to adopt a furry friend.
- To help out out local animal rescue groups and animal shelters, many of which are overwhelmed by the sheer number of animals in need.
- To illustrate these animals’ unique personalities and characteristics, thus underscoring the fact that they are not objects and should not be “freecycled”.
