Featured Adoptables: “Captain” Jack

April 30th, 2008 4:03 pm by Kelly G.

UPDATE, 5/28/08: Oh, yays! One-Eyed Jack has been adopted!

One of the (many) blogs I read regularly does a weekly series wherein they feature a new adoptable animal (usually with a little help from Petfinder). I love the idea, and decided to give it a spin over here.

Since http://www.kcfreecycle.org is a local blog (with, presumably, a local audience), and because we don’t allow animals on Kansas City Freecycle, I thought this might be a neat way to help out some of the area animal rescue groups. Plus, I hope to highlight a few of the many (manymanymany) homeless companion animals in the KC area. I encourage everyone out there in search of a new furry, fuzzy or feathered friend to consider adopting a local rescue animal. You might be surprised at the variety of animals available: dogs, cats, birds, horses, ferrets, rats, pigs, cows, hamsters. Again, Petfinder is a great start: http://petfinder.com. And if you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for locally, there are some great national rescue groups, too, many of them animal- or breed-specific.

This week’s Featured Adoptable is One-Eyed Jack, a senior Shih Tzu born with – you guessed it – one eye.

Friends of the Friendless – which is based in Lexington, MO – has the following to say about dear Jack:

One-eyed Jack is a darling little boy who only has one eye. Jack is blond-white in color. His only known vice is that he is not house trained. This is not his fault, however. If some precious soul out there works with him, he can be trained. Weight: 12 pounds. Age: 10 years. Cost: $125.

Please call Gina today to adopt One-eyed Jack as a forever addition to your family!

The listing was last updated on June 19, 2007 (!), so I hope that Jack has since been adopted. If he’s no longer available, try checking out these little angels, also from Friends of the Friendless: Sugar, Ginger, Vanilla and Nutmeg, four coonhound siblings rescued in an animal cruelty case.

But if the little guy’s still there (which is possible – we adopted a mother/daughter pair of dogs from Friends of the Friendless a few years ago, and they spent a year with Gina before we found them), please consider giving him a home. I’d love to adopt him myself, but our house is filled to capacity!
